Sadly, you didn't tell us anything - like what interfaces you need. We also don't know the intended purpose of this machine, or your budget.

However, with Windows 2000, only 256Mb of old technology RAM, an obsolete CPU, a 10 year old motherboard, and most likely, a power supply incapable of supporting today's technologies, it seems clear that you need a whole new computer. Upgrading your existing computer, if you can find any compatible parts, still will not get you anywhere near the "newest technology".

Sorry, but it is time to retire that computer, and get something new.

Secondly the recommendation leads me to the next question i.e Which configuration is suitable for my application

Use: Laboratory PC
Cost: Not a concern (< Euro 1000)
