STOP: 0x0000007A error After windows has loaded

I am running XP with a amd 64 bit chip, 1024 mb of ram and a sata hd (no raid set up).

I am getting STOP: 0x0000007A KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR a few seconds after the computer loads up. My mouse wont click anything and my start bar doesnt load in. Same problem happens if i go in safe mode.

Earlier my comp was hanging on the windows welcome screen. The green loading bar just kept going. Then i did a repair installation and Im getting this problem.

Any idea what it could be?

bad spot on the drive, perhaps

try a chkdsk /r from a command line

You have a ton of ram there, too....try reducing down to one stick and seeing if the problem recurs

If you don't tweak with that, start using Windows 64-bit

Some motherboards (as mine) are having difficulties if the drivers aren't updated. Update EVERY possible driver, even your videocard and soundcard and all other stuff. No matter WHAT, update it. If you reboot and play some really heavy game that normally causes the crash, it shouldn't be causing it now.

I dont overclock and i cant update drivers because i cant even open a window before i get stuck in the error/restart cycle.

Ill try the chkdsk and see what happens, i think i may have a corrupted hard drive. If thats the case, What can I do?

run the chkdsk, if it repairs the issue, move on...if the drive is truly corrupt at a low level, replace the drive.
