Unexpected picture background removal

Hi there, Please look below:

The RED higlighted background is an extra white background. I want to remove that white background and keep only the real image. I tried to crop the white background with GIMP, but it's hard to cut the edges smoothly using a mouse. I also saved the image as PNG but didn't work. Do you understand? I just want to keep the very real image, not any extra background.
Is there any tricky way to do this?
