My pc has become extremely slow in start up - it takes about 3minutes to start up and load my icons - then internet has become just as slow - doing emails is slow - then the other night it would not shut down at all eventually I had to pull the electrical connection (I hate doing) just to find a blank screen for 2 days. This evening it just froze completely and I had to force shut down again.

Welcome to GeekstoGo.

If this computer is a branded make, please post the make and model.

If you can get the computer to boot and stay booted for long enough open My Computer, hold the mouse on the hard drive and tell me the size of the drive and the free space.
OR right click the hard drive and click Properties and the same information is displayed there.

If you have a shut down problem, on the first post screen press the F8 key and on the advanced boot options select Safe Mode with Networking and see if stays on OK there.

Hi Macboatmaster,

I am not the original person that asked the question but did not reply - but I have the same problem with my DELL VISTA PC, which is 6 years old now and incredibly slow in booting up and even longer in shutting down. I have unticked (I think) all the itmes I do not want to load up when I boot up. I am by no means a PC technical person and would appreciate your advice. My Local Disk (c:) says: 340 GB free of 465

Please do not post inside another members topic, your computer issue/s may appear to be the same but be completely different + your request for assistance may be overlooked as staff and members will check a topic that has yet to receive a reply but they may not if it appears that assistance has already been offered to the OP.

Please start your own topic and we will be happy to assist you there, it will be helpful if you can provide as much information as possible about your computer and it`s hardware/software + any troubleshooting steps that you may have tried already.
