Hello,

I have looked all over in hopes of finding information on how to do this and have come up empty handed I hope someone here can help me

I have VMWare Workstation Version 7 that I am trying to use to setup a lab for the Microsoft 70-680 exams.

I have Server 2008R2 installed and configured as the PDC

I have two Windows 7 Virtual Machines they are named Client1 and Client2

What I want to do is have the two Windows 7 Boxes join the Server 2008 domain.

What I cannot figure out is what IP address I should give the Server 2008 box so that I can still access the internet but still have it be a DHCP Server for the two client VM's (is this possible or do they have to be static?) I have tried configuring a static address for the clients in the VMWare Network Editor but I keep getting an error saying that the IP and Subnet do not match the IP I am setting on client 1 is 192.168.1.71 , the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 to my knowledge this is a correct subnet t a class C address so I have no idea why Im getting the error ???

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Like I said I do not know if I can run the Windows 2008 server as a DHCP server and have the clients get a dynamic IP and join the domain but i would imagine so, unless this is a limitation of VMWare Workstation and I am setting this up completely wrong.

I know what you are trying to achieve (and it sounds right) but I have never set this up with VMWare before. Personally I would start reading here:

http://www.vmware.co...king/index.html

Also a couple of things, can the Server 2008 R2 box currently connect to the internet? You want to set it up as the DHCP server (which is fine) but what about DNS also? What is your default gateway and what is configured for DNS/DHCP currently?
