Please clarify what you mean as in have you put the Compaq HDD in the Dell for example.

I put the hhd in the dell it will not boot it doesn't recognize the drive

This is to be expected as there are no drivers for the Dell on the HDD, also be aware that drivers need to be installed in the correct order or you will get problems and particularly with Dell PCs, see the attached link; http://support.dell....4&isLegacy=true
Can you get into the BIOS to see if the HDD is even detected? You will also need to do this to change the boot order so that you can boot from the CD drive first.

Would someone please tell me how to get drivers from dell. I have downloaded download manager at least a dozen times with no drivers.
