After doing the full scan it stated that there was 3 threats on the computer and I was told to restart the computer to remove them, which I have done now.

I am also finding that opening internet Explorer and Microsoft Essentials is taking a long time to open.

Despite running a full scan I am still getting the following message from Microsoft Security Essentials appearing:
To complete the cleanup,you'll need to run a full scan to cheack for any remains of this threat.

What is it reporting ? does it give a virus name or file and location

Showing various win32/ramnit.ae virus/trojen in scan history,action which as been taken it's showing are Disinfected,allowed and removed
I can't find 1 particular virus file or location.

I am afraid this may be a case of where the virus is to deeply embeded to remove cleanly

I would recommend that you back up your documents, music and photos then reformat the drive and reinstall windows
