I have just got my new inspiron n5040 delivered and started it up, but half way through the start up process the touchpad stopped working. Luckily I had a wired mouse which I connected and it worked. But then as I was loading the 'PC mover' software, which I bought with the Dell, the keyboard stopped working too... maybe I pressed something maybe the laptop is faluty.. I am using the virtual keyboard on the screen at the moment, but that's not a way to go, so would appreciate it if anyone had a similar problem and can help!

Hi moc and :)
Try pressing the Fn and F3 keys at the same time, let us know if this works.

Tried that, as it has a touch pad picture on f3 key, but no use..

Did you try both combinations Fn + F3 and F3 only?
Please check the status of the keyboard and mice/pointing devices in the Device Manager, any yellow ! or red X markers by them, if you need to update the drivers http://search.dell.c...h=False&~ck=tab
If this does not resolve the issue it may suggest a hardware issue and the computer should be returned and repaired under warranty if one is in place.
