Can't shut down computer Safari stops the shutdown

my option to shut down safari (on my macbook pro) has disappeared. I can't even shut down my computer. Says Safari stopped the shut down...can you help?

I know its a late answer, but have you tried forcing Safari to quit?

did you find a fix for your problem?

a few more suggestions:
1. try removing safari from the dock. run it from the app's folder. then you can add it back to the dock if you want.
2. remember you can always force a power-off by holding down the power button for 10 or 15 seconds.
