I couldn't get the CanoScan D646U driver installed on Windows 7 - which is apparently quite common problem - but I managed to install it on my Windows XP computer just fine using the original setup cd. But the real problem occurs when I try to actually use the scanner. When I click "preview" or "scan" in scanning program error msg says "release the lock switch, detach the USB cable and reconnect. Close the scanner driver". I've checked that the lock switch has been unlocked the whole time but this error just keeps appearing every time I try to scan. I did "scanner diagnostics" in scanning program and it says that there's no problems detected. This is driving me crazy, I really have to get this thing working asap.

Would be really great if somebody could help me.

Hi FinnFox and :)
Having just checked Microsoft do not provide W7 drivers for the CanoScan D646U, their advice is to try the XP driver and if that does not work contact Canon for advice.
Can I ask when you installed the drivers for the device did you wait until you got an on screen prompt before connecting the USB cable?
