unwanted verizon download

i recently had verizon install my high speed internet and after the installer left i noticed there were 5 new icons on my screen.they put all those programs on my computer so i deleted 4 of them.the 5th program(verizon download manager)is a little trickier because i don t know its importance.it takes up 37 gb of space.ive searched all over the internet and have not found the answer.if i call verizon they will in my experience talk me out of deleting it because they want all there garbage in there.if anyone knows of this file and can tell me if its safe to delete it id be happy.
i have a lenovo windows xp laptop
