Windows 7 64-bit has a couple security features 32-bit does not. So in that respect, you will benefit. But you are not likely to see much in performance gains.
Why are you maxed out at 4Gb? Is that all your motherboard supports? If so, check your motherboard maker's website for any updates that may allow you to use larger modules, thus more RAM.

I didn't know you could do that! I shall have a look thanks.
In the new year I hope to upgrade to an i7 so I will obviously be getting a new mobo and more ram. I'm slowly upgrading my pc, done the psu, got a gtx460 coming and windows 64bit. I want to get a mobo that can sli then I'll buy another gtx eventually too.

There's nothing else to search for. If the motherboard maker doesn't have any BIOS updates posted, then that's it.
You can try Readyboost but many have not seen any benefits.

Well, i installed my 64bit win7. Amazingly straight away i gained about 700mb ram! It appears 64bit only reserves 1mb for the system!
Also, dont know if its just in my head but pc seems really quick.
