Hi guys

I picked up a Trojan virus recently and got rid of it via Norton. (my antivirus had expired and was off at the time)
It was a fake AV.
With that came the following start up message, and my desktop and menus have never been he same.

"Could not load or run C:\users\hp\LOCALS~1\Temp\f293e9c3163c0d6c.exe specified in the registry. Make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the reference to it in the registry."

All my desktop icons have been removed except Recycle Bin and My PC. The screen went blank and some of the side bar gadgets stopped working. All usable once I have either gone into the control panel or searched for them. Internet Explorer has disappeared ( I am using chrome now, it was already loaded )

So essentially my pc is still usable, but no menus or desktop icons. But I have also been so wrapped up in getting this fixed, that I have not really checked anything else.

Any suggestions??

Thanks guys, your help is appreciated.

Hi there lets see if we can remedy your problems

Download RogueKiller to your desktop

  • Quit all running programs
  • For Vista/Seven, right click -> run as administrator, for XP simply run RogueKiller.exe
  • When prompted, type 6 and validate
  • The RKreport.txt shall be generated next to the executable.
  • If the program is blocked, do not hesitate to try several times. If it really does not work (it could happen), rename it to winlogon.exe
Please post the contents of the RKreport.txt in your next Reply.

THEN

Download OTL to your Desktop
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Select All Users
  • Under the Custom Scan box paste this in
    netsvcs
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
    /md5start
    consrv.dll
    explorer.exe
    winlogon.exe
    Userinit.exe
    svchost.exe
    /md5stop
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\NetBT /s
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\NetBIOS /s
    C:\Windows\assembly\tmp\U\*.* /s
    %Temp%\smtmp\1\*.*
    %Temp%\smtmp\2\*.*
    %Temp%\smtmp\3\*.*
    %Temp%\smtmp\4\*.*
    CREATERESTOREPOINT
  • Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Post both logs

AND FINALLY

Download aswMBR.exe ( 1.8mb ) to your desktop.
Double click the aswMBR.exe to run it Click the "Scan" button to start scan

On completion of the scan click save log, save it to your desktop and post in your next reply
