I have had my Pc for around 3 years and up until recently it has always been fast. I have recently noticed it takes forever to startup. It is quick at getting to the desktop but takes time to load everything up. I have tried using TFC and mydefrag but i do not see any difference.

Currently running on vista home premium service pack 2, spec of pc as follows
Zoostorm ECS G31
Intel core 2 quad CPU Q9300 @2.50ghz,
4 GB ram

Also, just lately i have had a blue screen on startup.

I have also noticed that right clicking on the desktop takes ages to get the menu up and even on the internet, the pc seems to drag.

The only changes i have performed lately are a new PSU and the removal of my graphics card due to it dying on me. The PSU is the exact of what i had before and i am now connecting to my monitor via the integrated port until i replace the graphics card.

Any help would be very much appreciated, thank you.

Download BLUESCREENVIEW and install and run it to read the dump

files created by windows.
Double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.
Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

Would you please tell me which antivirus applications you have had previously on this machine any and all.The reason I ask is because some like to hang

around after you uninstall via add remove programs and require the use of removal tools.

Just DONT us the registry cleaner function of CCleaner unless you know what you are deleting exactly!!

Then open ccleaner hit the tools button then startup second one down below uninstall then in the bottom right hand corner of ccleaner hit save to text

file.Save it to your desktop and post the startup.txt here in your next reply.


Hit the start button in lower left hand corner. Then in the run box type msconfig, then hit the services tab then put a check mark in hide microsoft services

what is listed there,after hiding microsoft services?Please post back to us in a vertical list.

Checkmark the following boxes:


Flush Dns
List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size
Click Go and post the result.

I'll try that now.

AVG has never been a problem, i have used it for a few years and only over the past few months has the pc started to slow.

If AVG is the problem then i will dump it providing i can find good pc protection.

scannow would not let me run either as it ststed i was not administrator which is wierd?

3.Hit start button at lower left hand corner of the screen.Then in the run box type services.msc right click Run As Admin. Find the service listed below,one at a time. left click it once you should have the option to either stop the service or restart it , stop the service then right click selected service select properties then change the startup type to manual then left click apply and move on to the next service.If the service is stopped and the startup type is manual then do nothing.

Also Avg is a resource Hog and it isnt what it used to be.I suggest you switch to Avast,it has higher detection rates and is lighter on your system.

As far as the blue screens they were caused by Nero but the instructions I included should fix it,if not we will go about updating your copy of Nero. Please let me know how things go after completing my instructions.

EDIT: Reason for edit to ask a question.Are there any yellow ? or ! marks in device manager?
To open device manager press the windows key and pause at the same time.A window will pop-up select device manager and advise please. If you do switch to avast then check to see if windows firewall is enabled.

The other reason could be that you might have missing or outdated drivers, try updating them by going on the PC manufacturers website and downloading the drivers manually.

Finally, if your computer continues to be slow after going over each of the above recommendations it's possible that your computer is experiencing a more serious hardware related issue such as a failing component in the computer. This could be a failing or bad hard drive, CPU, RAM, motherboard, or other component.

Okay i have done all you mentioned. I have deleted avg and gone with the free avast, firewall is disabled.

Already do the cleanup with no difference.

I am hoping it is not a component. So far the pc seems to have benefitted from what i have done so far so fingers crossed

I am not seeing these in the unknown device id log.

SM/xD-picture So I assume they are not currently plugged into the computer.
