I was having intermitant freezing prior to installing a Nvidia VGA Apollo FX5700 128 mb PCI card. After installing drivers for card and playing games it seemed to work well. Then gradually they disappeared.First the DVD ROM and then The CD They are no longer listed in the devise mgr. A check with advanced system mgr. revealed that a driver detected a controller error on device\cd rom\ has a bad block. Then Matshita DVDROM SR 8586 disappeared from system w/o 1st being prepared for removal. Then the driver detected a controller error on CDROM. Then a system error on a parameter code & finally IDE-CD R/RW 8x4x32 disappeared. After all this the PC no longer freezes temporarily & of course I can no longer play games or record. I installed the latest drivers for the card. Why would the card work for a while & then...nothing. Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated. PS...I ran virus, adware, and spyware checks plus reistry mechanic and all were OK. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks..CB

Hi and welcome to Geeks to Go. Get driver cleaner at http://www.drivercleaner.net/
Then go to add/remove programs and remove the nvidia video driver. Boot into safe mode and run driver cleaner TWICE, each time deleting all that it finds. Then re-boot and install the latest Nvidia driver for your graphics card.
