Windows XP
Maxtor One Touch 1-Tb external drive

I can see the partition on my external drive only when I use data recovery and partition recovery tools. But not under normal file access operations.

The drive was "unmounted" by CHKDSK. I've rebooted and hooked up the drive to other Windows XP machines. The drive is not accessible by Explorer or other applications including the CMD DOS box.

Text Disk and other recovery programs can see the files and copy files out correctly. That's the only way to view the files.

I figure the partition is detached in some way. What's a good freeware product to fix this?
