On the MrMemory web site I referred you to, there are two vidoes for replacing memory. One for Laptops and one for Desktops.

Scroll down a little and you'll see these:

memory installation videos see how to install memory:
Notebook upgrade video Desktop upgrade video

ok I am watching that video now but on the bottom of my lap top there is only one very large part that will unscrew off, and one other part that clips off which I think is the battery.

Here is your problem:

Slot 'M1' is Empty
Slot 'M2' has 512 MB

You have a total of 512MB of memory. That was barely sufficient for XP, it is not even borderline useful for Vista. You need to increase the memory to 2GB and you will see a huge difference in performance.

Are you in the UK? If so, this site, MrMemory, has 1GB modules for £21.40 (£25.68 inc. VAT). I'm sure there are many other sites that you can buy from as well.

Buy two. They are easy to install. I can't find a web site for your MiTak but if you have the users guide it should tell you how to replace the memory.

OK I finally got it all opened up but it was too big?? and it wouldn't fit in?? Only just too big though. There was a space on top of the old one for it to go into but it wouldn't fit as it was too big?? What do I do now? What size do I need? Why wouldnt it fit?

You don't put it on top of the old one. You have to remove the old memory then put the new in it's place.

I don't know why it doesn't fit. According to the MrMemory web site that is the memory you need. All I can suggest is to return it.

Go to http://www.crucial.com/ and use their scanner, see what it says as far as the memory you need. Point to Memory (Ram) then SCAN MY SYSTEM, see what it tells you.

Well the old one underneath I took out and tried it in the top one and it fitted fine, and I tried the new one in the bottom one and it didnt fit there either. :(

I'm sorry. I don't know why it doesn't fit. Try the crucial.com site I posted and see what it tells you about the memory you need. Then contact the site you bought it from and tell them it's the wrong memory for your computer and that crucial.com says you need xxxxxxxxxxx (whatever the scanner says).

Also, look on the bottom of the laptop and see what the labels there say abou t the make and model number of your computer. Belarc Advisor said it was a MiTAC Notebook PC VT6363A so that's what I pointed you to at the MrMemory web site. See if this agrees with information on the laptop itself.

That explains why the memory doesn't fit. Belarc Advisor gave us the wrong information. Sorry, I should have had you look on the bottom of the laptop to start with. MrMemory has a good reputation so I don't think they will give you a hard time about returning it.

Looks like Evesham went out of business in 2008.

I can't find any useful info on your laptop and the MrMemory and Crucial.com web sites do not list that model. The Crucial scanner should be able to identify the type of memory. If not, your only recourse is to take it to a shop and pay to have memory added.

Hmmm, you can remove the existing memory (carefully, touch bare metal first to prevent static shock) and see what it says on the label. That may give us enough info to go on.

Note: The memory you purchased was 200 Pin SO DIMM DDR3200 400MHz, at least that's what the MrMemory web site says. See how that agrees with the label on your existing memory.

So should I call them and say that their website on Belarc Advisor gave me the wrong information? Or is that a different website to Mr Memory? Do you think Mr Memory will have a memory stick that will work with my PC?

This is information on the back of the old memory stick

Call MeMemory, tell them the ones you order were the wrong ones and you need two 1GB memory modules that match the info on the memory you already have. You could mention Belarc Advisor as where the wrong info cam from.

The only part they should need pc2-5300s but it doesn't hurt to have the rest available.
