You have not provided any information for us to be able to help you.

Make and model of laptop
Processor speed
How much memory (RAM)
What does your WEI (Windows Experience Index) look like?

Did it ever run better?

Thanks for the reply. Well I am not sure how to find that information? Can you help me know where to look? I know its an Intel celeron m, evesham is the lap top. It takes ablout 20 mins from clicking on the IE icon for it to fully have loaded the page. About 10 mins for anything else. Not sure if it has ever run faster as it is my Dads and he just got it.

My Vista PC however, well it is always getting the blue screen and various other messages when it crashes including a beeping noise from the tower.

Download and install Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit then run it.

When it completes, use the mouse to select the following:

Operating System
System Model
Processor
Main Circuit Board
Drives
Memory Modules
Local Drive Volumes

then right click and Copy. Open notepad (Start, All Programs, Accessories, Notepad) and paste the data there (Ctrl+v or right click and Paste). Save (File / Save) as chipper1.txt.

Start a new reply here then use the Browse and Attach This File buttons below the message input area attach chipper1.txt to your post. That should give us the info needed.

It should look something like this:

Here is your problem:

Slot 'M1' is Empty
Slot 'M2' has 512 MB

You have a total of 512MB of memory. That was barely sufficient for XP, it is not even borderline useful for Vista. You need to increase the memory to 2GB and you will see a huge difference in performance.

Are you in the UK? If so, this site, MrMemory, has 1GB modules for £21.40 (£25.68 inc. VAT). I'm sure there are many other sites that you can buy from as well.

Buy two. They are easy to install. I can't find a web site for your MiTak but if you have the users guide it should tell you how to replace the memory.

Thanks so much for your help. Yes it is basically useless at the moment. Why it only ever had that amount of memory in the first place I don't know. Now is it easy to install? Is the one that you posted me suitable for what I need?

Also for my Windows Vista PC, I think this is the more complicated as Its an Acer Aspire T180, 220-240vac 3.15a, 50hz and a PC. Keeps freezing and wont work again unless I turn it off at the wall. Everyday it is crashing and then the tower light goes a stable red and then the tower starts beeping and it wont turn back on, sometimes of a day or two. It works great when its working, fast etc.

The web site says it is the right one for your computer, that's all I can tell you since I can't find a web site that has the users guide or service manual for the notebook.

For the Desktop PC, my first thought is that it's overheating. How old is it? Have you ever opened the case and cleaned out the dust bunnies from heat sinks, fans and grill openings?

Read here: Maintenance Safety, Cleaning, and ESD

Also, download, install and run WhoCrashed. It looks in C:\Windows\Minidump for any crash dump files, analyzes them and gives you a report. Select the reports shown with your mouse then paste that into a reply here. If it's not a heat problem then this may give us a clue as to the cause.

Thanks for that. Is it free? I cant see where the actual download part is? Do you know?

OK I downloaded it! and now I am just wondering how do I actually get the crash report the next time it crashes?
