:woot: it worked!!!

Well i did those last steps and then tried the internet and it worked.

Thanks a bunch man! Let me know if there is anything else we need to do to clean up stuff, etc.

You have been a tremendous help. My whole family is appreciative as they won't have to hound me for my computer any longer.

Thanks!

The thanks go to the team of unsung heroes that were helping me every step of the way. To them I am gratefull ... Take a bow Cookiegal and Macboatmaster

Subject to no further problems :)

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so..The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Remove ComboFix
  • Hold down the Windows key + R on your keyboard. This will display the Run dialogue box
  • In the Run box, type in ComboFix /Uninstall
(Notice the space between the "x" and "/")
    then click OK

    Posted Image
  • Follow the prompts on the screen
  • A message should appear confirming that ComboFix was uninstalled

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.

Posted Image Your Java is out of date.
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older version of Java components and upgrade the application.

Upgrading Java:
  • Go to this site and click Do I have Java
  • It will check your current version and then offer to update to the latest version

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

Posted Image Malwarebytes.

Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

Download and install FileHippo update checker and run it monthly it will show you which programmes on your system need updating and give a download link

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated. To keep your operating system up to date visit
To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read our little guide How did I get infected in the first place ?Keep safe

I hope you don't mind me posting here but I just want to say that I was only along for the ride, it was macboatmaster who came up with the fix. I think Essexboy deserves a big thanks for sticking with it and refusing to give up and Jaydog11, you too for doing everything that was asked of you and being patient throughout the entire process. :)

it seems to be running good. The funnt thing is it seemed to be lightning quick compared to before and then as soon as the internet was back up it seemed to slow down. Also, the inrenet does work a little slow but I assume thats just because its an older laptop?

Also, before I came to the geeks to go site I tried a few things myself based on some threads I was reading and it looks like I may have messed up my malwarebytes. I listened to someone say to rename the Folder and some of the files to something different so that the virus wouldn't detect it but that obviously didn't work. I tried to uninstall it but it just leaves remnants of it there and wont completely uninstall it? I can still see it on the start menu but I need to completely remove so that I can now install a good clean copy. Any ideas?

Yep install a fresh copy over the top and that should clear it

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

You could set IE to delete the temp files on shutdown.. This may make it a tad faster

Go to Control Panel > Internet Options
Select the Advanced tab
Under security check the Empty internet folders when closed option

It looks like I have like 1o different software updates and 3 beta updates.
I will install those this weekend.

One more questions, I have Spybot's Teatimer running in the system tray, is there a way to stop this from running and keep it from loading up everytime I start my computer?
