Hi and thank you for your help.

Win 7 Proffessional install disk tells me that my Home Prem Vista cannot be Upgraded and that I have to install Win 7 as a new copy.

After I do a back up of C: \ drive, do I need to reformat the drive before I install Win 7?

My Laptop profile: Dell 1501Inspiron, MS Vista Home Prem, v. 6.0.6002 svc pk 2 build, X86 based PC, Sys 32 bit,

AMD Turion, 64 X2 Mobile tech TL-56, 1800 Mhz, 2 cores, Dell Bios v.2.6.3. 12/7/2007, 2GB Ram.120GB HD,

Currently have 55GB free on my C:drive

Thank you again for your help!

This is a good tutorial for doing a clean install: How to Do a Clean Installation with Windows 7

In the long run you are better off doing a clean install anyway. You don't drag along any Vista problems.
