Screen Keeps Going White

My Mother's Computer was having grey/black lines across the screen when her modem was on. It looked like when you take a picture of a computer with a cell phone and the screen shows lines in the pic.. well she started messing with the Modem's menu buttons and the lines finally went away but now the screen goes completely white a few seconds after turning the modem on. The only way to get the white to go away is to turn the modem on again.. but then a few seconds later.. its white again.
Does anybody know how to fix this problem???
