If I want to build a system just for music production, is there a downside to using higher quality older processors and motherboards such as a Core 2 Quad with a LGA775 socket opposed to getting an i5 or i7 processor? The only downside I see is that older motherboards don't have USB 3.0 availability...Just wanted some input. Thanks.

Hi Eddie Lamar Sharpe Jr. ... ..:welcome:

The only downside I see is that older motherboards don't have USB 3.0 availability

they also don't have SATA 3...
go with the newer standard...it will be much faster and have upgrade ability a few years down the road
