If I want to build a system just for music production, is there a downside to using higher quality older processors and motherboards such as a Core 2 Quad with a LGA775 socket opposed to getting an i5 or i7 processor? The only downside I see is that older motherboards don't have USB 3.0 availability...Just wanted some input. Thanks.

they also don't have SATA 3...
go with the newer standard...it will be much faster and have upgrade ability a few years down the road
