I reformatted and reinstalled XP2 on a 4 year old Dell Optiplex 745 but cannot connect to the Internet.

I see I'm missing some controllers including the one for ethernet card. I have downloaded the communications controller from Dell here http://www.dell.com/...c=us&l=en&s=dhs to a laptop, copied the (file R72270.EXE) to a usb stick, copied the file to the Dell, executed and installed the file in C:dell/drivers and then tried to install it via Systems/Hardware/right click the ethernet card (marked in yellow as missing) and reinstall. The reinstallation does not work.

And still cannot connect to the Internet.

I've reinstalled XP before on other machines and it's been follow-the-steps easy. Seem to be missing something basic here. Help appreciated thanks.

Hey loki16,

R72270.exe is actually the drivers for the Conexant Modem, which would be used for dial-up. Searching for Dell Optiplex 745, Windows XP, I looked under Network, then selecting the "Broadcom-Driver" took me to the Broadcom 57XX Gigabit Integrated Controller download page.

Give this driver a shot and let us know how it goes! Suerte!

mission completed admiral! thanks.

now i just have to sort out the other missing drivers. is it not a matter of just right clicking the ones marked in yellow, hitting renew and letting WXP find install them?

i'm having a devil of a time finding the driver for my screnn, a benq ET0026B also known as a G2222HDL can't understand why benq themselves don't have it.
