computer very slow after system restore

Hi all
After doing a system restore I restarted computer and it tok forever for desktop icons to appear. Now computer is very slow starting up. Can you please help me out. I can't figure out what went wrong. I'm working in windows xp media center edition service pack 3. Thank you for any help.

Hi, first,,,why the restore?? Go to ,My Computer,,open it,,right click on Local Disk C,,.Go to Properties,,Tools,,error-checking,click Check Now,,check both boxes and click .Ok. Check Ok on the messages that says about next boot. Then restart computer.
