Hello All,
The PSU supply is failing on a computer built in 2008.
I thought as long as I am replacing the PSU I might as well upgrade the CPU.
Can you please advise on what CPU could replace the current one in terms of speed.

Current MB: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813128090
Current CPU: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16819103212

In addition where can I get this chip, ebay, newegg?

Thanks to all.

http://www.gigabyte....spx?pid=2814#sp

Above is the link to your motherboard - just check please revision 1.0 or revsion 1.1.
On the right hand block - CPU support list.
HERE it is for you
http://www.gigabyte....p.aspx?pid=2814
revision 1.1
Not of course the AM3 block

and the list for revision 1.

http://www.gigabyte....p.aspx?pid=2758

On a Gigabyte board the revsion number is found on the lower left below the I/O ports

In addition where can I get this chip, ebay, newegg?

That I think is just a question of Googling for the best price.
Be aware of some deals that seem fantastically cheap of course
My advice always buy from a known supplier.

It is now some 10 days since you asked for advice.
Did you manage to sort out the supply of the CPU
Would you kindly update YOUR thread when you get chance.

Hi everyone.
A while back I posted a question as to which CPU to get for an older computer.
I have put off the project but need to update it soon.
I don't have a lot of hardware knowledge and wanted to know if I will notice a significant difference in speed if I upgrade.
Here is the CPU I am considering:

Current cpu---> Athlon X2 5000
upgradee ---> AMD Phenom X4 9650 - 2.3 GHz Quad-Core

I looked online for some sort of comparison speed chart but couldn't find one.

Thanks.
