Hi shell38 and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Excal and I will be helping you.

I can see that you have some malware issues. This maybe a few step process in removing it. I encourage you to stick with it and follow my directions as closely as possible so as to avoid complicating the problem further.

Download CWShredder here to its own folder.

Update CWShredder

* Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
* Click Check For Update
* Close CWShredder
We will be using this program later.

Download and install CleanUp! Here
We will use this program later.

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

1. Click this link to be sure you can view hidden files.

2. Ensure you are NOT connected to the internet.

3. Close all browsers, windows and unneeded programs.

4. Open HiJack and do a scan.

5. Put a Check next to the following items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {50F11905-D071-11D9-8794-00D099CA0779} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\PGOG.DLL (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [atiupdpl] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\atiupdpl.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [atiupdpl] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\atiupdpl.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [atiupdpl] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\atiupdpl.exe

6. click the Fix Checked box

7. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

8. Please remove just the files from the following paths using Windows Explorer (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\atiupdpl.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\PGOG.DLL

9. Now run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about. Reboot your computer into normal windows.

10. Run the program CleanUp!

11. Reboot into normal mode and please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan - Save the results from the scan!

12. Please post an Active scan log and a fresh HiJackThis log to verify all is good. Ensure you rehide your “hidden files and folders” back to the way they were.

Hi

Well i have followed your instructions to the T.... this is what happened.

Run Hijackthis and deleted all the files you said all ok :tazz:

Rebooted in safe mode looked in explorer but could not find the 2 files you said. Hopefully i was looking in the right place laffs..... :tazz:

Run Shredder all went well ...... ;)

Rebooted pc and up came the following

Mad
Performed an ilegal operation and will close down..... ect... not sure what this is. ;)

Run clean up all went well ......... ;)

Run active scan..... During this a box came up with the following

Spysubstract error 0x800403ff...... :)

Active scan showed no virus and i could not see where to save report as the only option was to scan again. when i clicked that it gave me 2 options to scanagain or buy.

Then i did another Hijackthis and here is the log:

The other thing that seems to be going funny. Before i had all this trouble i had to format my hardrive because i could not get even windows to load then. I used to have a small card reader installed via USB. It used to work perfectly. Now it will not install keeps coming up with error. I have installed it on my laptop and it works fine. Have got it to run a couple of times on here but then keeps going wrong. Wondered if it was because of all this trouble.

Well fingers crossed i have done everything right.... many thanks

Hi Shell38,

You HiJackThis Log is clean ;)

I am not sure what error you are talking about, could you give me a better description of what it says.

As far as that small card reader goes, we have a great hardware section with some very knowledgable staff. I suggest that you maybe pose that question to them.
http://www.geekstogo...rdware-f40.html

Great job, it appears your computer is clean :tazz:

Now that your system is Malware Free, it is important to reset your system Restore. Click Here to learn how to.

Might I suggest the following Free Spyware programs for added security, you can download them at the following links. These programs work great for detection:

Ad-aware SE

Spybot S&D

If you are unhappy with your current antivirus and want to replace it or if you dont already have one, I suggest one of these free programs:
*Note - do not use more than one anti-virus program as it will more than likely cause conflict.

AVG
Avast

The following free programs are great for prevention:

SpywareBlaster 3.4

Spywareguard

IE/Spyad

A Firewall is a must! Here are 2 good free versions:

Sygate

ZoneLabs

There are other options other than Internet Explorer for a browser, which some say have better security. Two of them are:

Firefox

Opera

This site is a great source for tightening up security on Internet Explorer settings.

Make sure that you keep your Operating System and IE updated with the latest Critical Security Updates from Microsoft...they usually come out once a month, on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
For ease use the following program:

Cleanup
Run "Cleanup" and when it has finished, Reboot

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Thanks so much for all your advice :tazz:

I run Agv and as far as i can tell it seems ok. it would not get rid of the first main startpage about blank though. The only thing that seemed to get rid of it was TD-3. This program i think you have to pay for after a months trial. How do you rate this, do you think its worth buying.

I also use Ad-ware se but i have downloaded the following to try to combat the problem i have.

spy substract
cwShredder
adware away
clean up
spybot search and destroy
pal spyware removal.

Shall i get rid of some of these have you delt with these and which do you find the best.

Although my scan log shows clean i still get the startpage virus warning come up on agv when i sometimes start my computer. It says it heals ok. and when i did another hijack log it seemed ok. I just wish i knew why i kept getting this.

Anyway once again many thanks
Shel ;) ;)

Hi shell38,

Can you please disable SpySubtract for this scan.

Please run a free online virus scan at this site:

Kaspersky

Post the results please.

Thanks,

Also when i go to Kapersky it is asking me to choose seperate files to check so which ones do i need to do. If i want to do the whole computer its asking me if i want to test the beta version out. Which of these did you mean :tazz:

The agv is still coming up every now and again with trojan startpage and it heals. and sometimes when i start the pc up it comes up with different programes saying have caused illegal operation and will close one that i can remember is MAD. Its all very strange everything seems to be working except for sometimes when i go on to a website the writing is so very very small cant read it. • Please click this link to download Silent Runners.
  • Save it to the desktop.
  • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
  • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done yet, just let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once you receive the prompt "All Done!", double-click on the new text file on the desktop and copy that entire log and paste it here.

  • NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.
For some time it will look like nothing is happening. Just keep waiting.
  • Once it's done it will create a log. A window will come up telling you when it's saved. Please post that log here
