Hello,

I have windows vista. I really want to edit a video (on dvd) I made from a camcorder.
Basically there is a little chunk I want to take out.

I have windows movie maker, thats pretty basic though isnt it? I wanting something a little bit more jazzy!! lol.

Anyone know of any programmes or anyway that I can cut bits out of a mid scene from a dvd I took on an old camcorder?

Personally, I use Sony Vegas. If you're into "hardcore" editing, I highly recommend this program. For your purposes however, I think Movie Maker will do just fine. I get the feeling that it would be a little overkill for you to be shelling out ~$600 on this kind of software. It does have a free trial though. When it comes to simply editing a part out, the only thing Vegas has over any freeware editing software is the mind numbing number of input options and the output formats.

Ultimately, I leave it up to you, but check out Vegas, see if it's your thing.

the thing is, I have windows movie maker already and from what I can see, I cant delete anything, its kind of all or nothing once you upload!

I have a video that is say 10 minutes long, and I want to delete a 60 second part of it that is say 5 minutes in, (for example?)

I dont think Moviemaker can do this can it? If so, can you tell me how- or what I should be looking for?

Forget what I said about Windows Movie Maker. The one included with Windows XP was actually half decent, but I just checked out the Vista/7 one and I can't tell heads from tails with the crappy interface. I'll search around for some good free ones but in the meantime check out that Vegas free trial. I'll get back to you with something more substantial, but this should do you over until then.

Maybe someone else will have some suggestions?

It doesnt seem like anyone has any suggestions for me lol... I will check out this free trial. I am not a mega movie editor like I said, all I want to do is to be able to cut a few seconds from the middle of a video I uploaded onto my computer from a disc.

Let me know if you think of anything?

Check out Avidemux

It's not as fully featured as Vegas, but a lot easier to use.

After you import your videos just select the section you want to cut out using the "A" and "B" buttons to mark the start and end of the section you wish to edit. Then hit Ctrl+X to edit out the section. Afterwards, just hit File > Add to joblist... Then select "View Joblist" under the File menu or hit Ctrl + J. Hit run all jobs or select the entry and hit Run selected Jobs, and you're done. Just make sure to pick a good location and include the file format in the output file. It didn't do it for me when I ran a quick test. eg. if your video had an .avi extension you would have to name your output video "video.avi" or whatever the extension is.

I did download the Vegas Pro trial tho, looks veryc omplicated- except every time I tried to open a video from my documents it wouldnt allow it so I havent actually been able to use it yet... I will try this new one though.

Hello, thought I would resort back to the reliable! lol

I am using movie maker, I just wondered whether I can stack pictures into one frame? If you think of the old brady bunch intro - kinda like that but with about 9 pics on the one screen,,, there doesnt seem to be an option for it? Also- do you know how to get a song from itunes onto the moviemaker?

Does anyone know of any FREE software that I can download to convert mp4 files to something that plays on Moviemaker - without the watermark most free trials give you?

Handbrake is quick and easy to use if it's straight conversion your after. Regarding your question about movie maker I have never used the Vista/7 iteration so I doubt I can be of much help.
