Hello everybody, can somebody help me?

Hi guys,
for several months I'm having a strange problem with my Windows7 desktop computer: when i'm working with my machine (no matter which programme I'm using that moment), suddenly and unpredictably, the system crash down, showing - not a "normal" blue screen - but a sort of "kaleidoscopic" screen, where the screen is completely covered with a thousands times repeated imagine (a sort of "pattern"). At this point nothing works anymore and I'm forced to restart the system (it could happens several times a day and in very close moments too or even after many days from the previous time).
Too bad I'm a very inexpert user and so I cannot understand what is the problem. On my friend's suggestion,

Before we can help you need to provide the following so I can start you in the right direction.
Laptop or Desktop?
  • If a name brand system then what brand, make and model is the system?
  • If custom built then what brand, make and model is the motherboard
  • Total memory installed
  • Total hard drive capacity and free space
  • What steps have you taken so far to resolve the issue
