Ok, my brother's computer is so messed up that it needs to be re-formatted. I was going to do it today, but I have one problem. The computer did not come with quick restore cd's. Can I re-format it and then re-install the XP with the OS cd?

well, yes, but only if the cd is for this computer....you cannot legally install multiple copies of windows xp on different computers....and MS will likely prevent you from activating it.

Also, your method above will result in complete data loss.

alternatives:

1.you could clean it up
2.some computers come with a restore partition, rather than restore cd. look at the owners manual to see if yours is one
