I had to "Print Screen" 4 times -- see attachments -- to get everything requested

On the entries that are check marked, that is a tick in the box on the left of the entry, all those items are running every time you start the computer



Please send the screnshot of those items


You have sent screenshots of ALL entries. I asked you to send screenshot of those that were check marked.
HOWEVER that is partly my error, as I failed to notice that you have configured selective startup

Go back to msconfig, on the screenshot in your post 29 - that is the screen it opens on, click the entry Normal startup.
Click Apply and OK
Reboot the computer
Go back to msconfig, click the Startup tab and then send me the screnshot please of the entries that are check marked. that is the ones with the green tick in the box to the left of the entry

With the greatest of respect you did not uninstall or disable your printer as a result of following MY instructions

I have posted separately so you are not swamped with too long a post
YOUR printer is installed twice one on usb port 1 and once on usb port 2.
ONE you will see is default printer
Go Control Panel Printers and uninstall the entry for the HP Laser that is NOT listed as the default printer.

YOU had two printers listed, one on USB port 001 the default printer and the same pirnter still shown as installed on usb port 002
What I think has happened is that at sometinme you have changed the connection from the printer to the usb port and put the cable into another usb port.

Therefore.whenever your print command went to the printer on the usb port where it was NOT then connected the print comand would fail.

If you now have the printer connected and shown and it is not working simply click uninstall and then reboot and it will reinstall.
YOU need one printer for that HP shown as default printer.

1. I strongly recommend you uninstall IO Bit Advanced system Care.
Use the Control Panel Add/Remove programs to start with.

In case you ever decide you want to return to using it, ensure you have the necessary product key, license key or whatever it is called.
I can assure you that this program, far from doing anything to enahnce your computers performance is in fact doing a very good job at degrading the performance by running so many pointless checks on your system.


2.I also recommend you uninstall Copernic Desktop Search service - that is not as URGENT as IOBit ASC which is without doubt slowing your system down - and IMHO should never be reinstalled, but if you can uninstall copernic we can then be assured that it is not this that is causing the problem.
It will NOT be Copernic itself, but its interaction with other programs installed.
Once we have the system right, you can then if you wish reinstall Copernic and see what happens.

3. You have Secunia PSI installed, an excellent program - go into the settings screen and uncheck scan on boot.
Leave the other setings on default.

4. You have McAfee Security scan installed, VERY LIKELY installed with an Adobe update and you failed to see that you had the option to UNCHECK the offered McAfee before installing the Adobe.

Do not take this as an insult PLEASE, many many people fail to notice the offered toolbars, search providers and the security scans offered with many products. Usually it is a question of opting out rather than opting in.

Thanks for your help -- I will transfer over to Malware per your instructions

a thought -- I am very tempted to save all my data (actually it's already saved) and reformat my hard drive and install Windows 7 Professional and get a fresh start, so to speak

what do you think of that strategy?

There are two aspects that come to mind

1. Will it run windows 7

Well I know you are not going to be too keen on this answer, but please be assured that it is to ensure I give you the best advice.

The answer is unfortunately, no I cannot, as once I have made the decision, that it is correct to refer you to Malware, all help on this forum must cease.

The reason for that is, that any steps I now take can POSSIBLY serve to run the risk of
1. Making the job of the Malware Tech harder

2. Placing your data, at risk and the threat posed by the Malware - if indeed you are infected - at risk of being spread further across the file systems of the computer

Sorry but please do be assured that these rules are for your good.

well -- I went over to the Malware Dept. and tried to download OTL -- it would not download AND NOW MY DESKTOP IS CONTINUALLY CRASHING AND THEN REBOOTING AND THEN CRASHING AND THEN REBOOTING AND THEN CRASHING -- you get the picture. I'm writing this from my Netbook since the desktop is decidedly not working

will the Malware Dept. help me, even if I can't run OTL first? I'm assuming my desktop will eventually tire of crashing and I will be able to get back on it

Go back to your desktop and either boot to Safe Mode on F8 see if it still crashes.
If it does and you get the chance do what it appears you did before and disable all startup items and after hiding microsoft services all services.

I did not ask you to do that and did not realise you had until you sent the screenshots

There is a chance that you DID NOT do that and it was done by that Advanced System Care as it mentions optimization of the computer.

I do not know what the ASC does as I would not even think of using it. - even to test it on one my two spare computers.

If you then get chance post the OTL if you cannot add to your post that you cannot include the OTL for the reason given here.

PLEASE be aware that from what I saw of your screenshots you sent you had or something had disabled your avg AV insofar as it was not checked on startup - you would I presume have had an indication from the AVG icon on the taskbar

On my desktop I am unable to get on the Internet -- not even with a wireless adapter which I purchased but I can't make work -- so I have decided to reformat my hard drive and install Windows 7 Professional

it seems that Reimage Repair totally knocked out my ability to connect to the Internet in the middle of "fixing" my computer. I see no other reasonable choice.

Well I am sorry about that - but it is NOT an attempted remedy that I would have ever suggested

I use win 7 professional.

As soon as you have it running make your system image and your repair disc

It is a very smooth operation on windows 7.
