is there a reliable bit of software i can install on my usb sticks, external hard drives, etc that adds a reasonably secure password?

i'm not talking the Google algorythm, just backed up data that i'd prefer, if i were to lose a usb stick, couldn't be accessed by jo sixpack.

(i realise you can buy 'secure usb sticks' but i want something for existing hardware.)

thx.

Hello,

I use TrueCrypt (It's Free!) for my portable devices. It allows me to create a "container" to store files and encrypts them using a series of one-way hashes and ciphers which means that if someone wanted to view your files they couldn't.
