Computer hates my mouse

Up until a week ago the mouse on my ps was working fine. Then out of nowhere it is double or triple clicking items. Sometimes it doesn't even click them at all. I hear the button clicking but the pc seems to not be picking up on it or the amount of times i have clicked an item. Have been trying to figure out a resolution for 2 days now and I'm at a loss. Its a USB mouse, its clean and fairly new. Is my pc telling me to buy a new one or do i have a problem in a program. If it is a program how do i fix it?
