Hey Crowbar,

Slider all the way to top already.

Ran that Driver you noted but i got a box saying extractor not responding, timer came up, then box disappeared.
No acknowledgement that it loaded. Can i reload that from the Toshiba link? If so which one is it(Name)?

Chrome still not working right e.g. everything still tends to freeze. Games now a no go because they are too slow.
IE9 works faster.
I still get the times where laptop not talking to modem.

Q; I d/loaded ALL(apart from 4)Drivers from your first link. They are the ones i was suppose to do it from..Right?

Hi Aqua258,

What was that resolution when you checked the slider?
You have downloaded the right drivers from the right links.
I think you should re-download that file. It's not actually a driver, but I wanted you to install it as it has some Toshiba diagnostic programs we could use.

It's in the first link here and its the topmost download link, the Toshiba Value Added Package.

Then
Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Devices
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
  • List Minidump Files
Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

Hi Aqua258,
I would like to try a complete removal of Chrome again, now that you have the correct drivers installed.

Step 1
The steps that I am about to suggest involve modifying the registry. Modifying the registry can be dangerous so we will make a backup of the registry first.
Modification of the registry can be EXTREMELY dangerous if you do not know exactly what you are doing so follow the steps that are listed below EXACTLY. if you cannot perform some of these steps or if you have ANY questions please ask BEFORE proceeding.

Backing Up Your Registry
  • Download ERUNT
(ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) is a free program that allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed.)
  • Install ERUNT by following the prompts
(use the default install settings but say no to the portion that asks you to add ERUNT to the start-up folder, if you like you can enable this option later)
  • Start ERUNT
(either by double clicking on the desktop icon or choosing to start the program at the end of the setup)
  • Choose a location for the backup
(the default location is C:\WINDOWS\ERDNT which is acceptable).
  • Make sure that at least the first two check boxes are ticked
  • Press OK
  • Press YES to create the folder.
Posted Image

Step 2
We need to do a manual uninstall of Chrome
Please follow the instructions here at the Google support site.
After you have fully removed Chrome, please download a fresh copy from here and reinstall it.

Step 3
I would like to make sure 2 services are running as they should be,
Please click the Start Orb, and type services.msc into the search box and press enter
In the Services window, please scroll down and find Volume Shadow Copy. Double click it and verify that is is set to Startup Type Manual
close it's property box and go back to the list. Find Windows Search in the list and double click it. Make sure this one is set to Startup Type Automatic (delayed start), and if it is not started, please click Start.

Let me know what these 2 were set to.

Followed all instructions.

Just a question; After uninstalling Chrome/file, why was Chrome in control panel and the icon was still on desktop?
Should that not have disappeared if it removed Chrome?

Anyway, did the re-install.

Checked for the 2 items you asked;
Volume Shadow Copy = Manual
Windows Search = Automatic(delayed start)

Both were set as you said they should be.

PS; will run it all today and see how it goes...

Update;
Made Chrome default browser to see how it goes.
Chrome still slow, as soon as i opened a page "Shockwave crashed" OR "Unknown crashed".
Tested in FB and Games, still freezes up, nothing happening(talking)to modem, constant shockwave crashes.

I was told a while back that flash player and chrome flash clash, so i tried turning off the chrome one. Still getting the freeze and crashes. When the page, any page, freezes i watch the modem to see if its doing anything but Nothing. Tried turning off the other flash but then the games dont work.

After making Chrome default IE9 decided it was going to chuck a tantrum and started to load slow and it was coming up with "not responding". Which means get out and start again. I'm seriously thinking that all these programs are clashing and its not my laptop at all.

Sorry this is turning out to be such a pain... :upset:

Update;
I'm not sure whats going on but it just took me 30 minutes to get here.
Google home page just wouldnt load so i tried IE same thing. Yes i had internet connection. I ran malwarebytes just in case, it came up with nothing. There have been no updates of sorts. I haven't loaded anything new.

Hi,
I had not realized that you edited your post to include more information, I apparently don't get notified when a post is edited.

Let me discuss your current situation with my instructor.

Hi Aqua258,

I'm sorry that this is a pain for you. I have another fix to try, if you are still up for the challenge....

Open Chrome,
type this into the address bar:
about:plugins
Look down the list of plug-ins for the Flash entry.
If it says Flash(2 files) then continue on.
In the upper right hand corner of the browser window there is a small toggle labeled [+] Details. Click on that toggle to expand the entries for all the plug-ins. Return to the entry for Flash.

Now look at the Location of the files in the 2 flash entries, one should be in a Chrome folder (actually the AppData\Local\Chrome folder), and one should be in the Windows folder.
Please click on the Disable folder for the entry that lists the Chrome folder. Once you click on Disable the rest of the entry should become greyed out.

Now close Chrome completely out, and open it again. Then navigate your way to this flash test page

If that does not work, please try surfing in incognito mode for a bit and tell me if that helps.

Hey Crowbar,

Thought you had given up on me.
I already tried turning off the Chrome flash(last post update), still had no joy.
My youtube videos stopped loading up.

The only thing i could think of that had changed was the drivers we installed.
SO, i know that you won't like this BUT i d/loaded uniblue and let it run. It came up with 3 drivers out of date.
Drivers.jpg
I let it run its course to update drivers and guess what....Chrome; no problems loading. IE9; no problems loading.
No sand/timer near cursor. Graphics on cursor actually look better, dont look so broken.
Both have improved to what they were like the other day. Youtube vids are ok now.
Which again makes me question the drivers on that windows link.

I still get the freezes(no modem-comp talk) but that sometimes comes up with a box saying "unknown plug-in has crashed".
Yes still get the shockwave crash.

I "haven't" tried the incognito or the "test flash".
I will try that today and get back to you with an update.

Question; how do i remove Chrome from control panel. Since the manual uninstall and reinstall i now have 2 Chrome in there.
Tried removing 1 but doesnt seem to want to go.
ALSO; In the chrome plug-ins page; Do i need all those other plug-ins? E.g. remote viewer etc...

I will get back to you a bit later with a cognito update... :P

Hi Aqua258,

Thought you had given up on me.

I don't give up that easy :)

So about your drivers, I *think* now that you had the correct drivers for your hardware, uniblue program has updated them with a newer version, but the point is that they are the correct drivers for your hardware.

SO, i know that you won't like this BUT i d/loaded uniblue and let it run. It came up with 3 drivers out of date.

It does not matter if I like it, in the end it's your computer, and you choose what software to run. :D
I only want your computer to run properly so you can enjoy it and not give it a flying lesson! :killcomp:

Can you tell me what happens when you click on either of those Chrome icons in your control panel?
Are you talking about the "Uninstall a Program" section in the Control Panel?

About your plugins, you can disable any of those if you want to, but if you disable the Default Plug In, you might not be able to install any new ones.

Let me know how the incognito test goes, and remember that when you edit your post, I don't get a notification, so try to make a new post if you can.

Chrome control panel; One of them is the new install and the other is left over from when i did the manual delete.
The old one does nothing when i click it but i cant get it to delete from the list in control panel.

Chrome and IE9; Cognito: Both run way better..as in faster and less crashes. Tried them in norm web pages, my websites as well as facebook and games.
Although i seem to be getting a lot more of "facebook is not responding" messages.
Maybe FB doesnt like it because it cant track what im doing so it's chucking a sad....lol

Better conversation(cognito) happening between laptop and modem. Still the odd freeze but not as bad/frequent.

Crowbar just a guess here but is it possible that maybe my anti virus(Avast)is doing this. I find it odd that i set it to update every 2000hrs, just to test i guess. Yet it still updates when i start-up and during my time on the laptop. Why i say this is; when i was waiting for this site to load...it took some time...then the avast update notification popped up...then the page loaded. When i noticed this it dawned on me that this has happened before with other pages. ???????????
I think i mentioned once before that when the freeze/no talk happens i here the laptop still doing something.

It does not matter if I like it, in the end it's your computer, and you choose what software to run.

Well it does matter somewhat to me ;) because i don't want you to be going out your way to help me and then i go and do whatever at the other end.
It was done more as a matter of testing which i guess turned out ok.

Hey There, No problem...get back to me when you can.

Update; I was going through everything, yet again, today and i discovered that after the clean install all things like flash, chrome were not the latest d/loads.
Chrome updated itself...I updated flash in chrome(chrome didnt do it?) as well as the manual one i need.
Has anything changed since updates? No not really.

There is one thing i noticed thats really freaky. After writing to you about my Avast it has stopped doing it!!!!! Now that i have written this it will most likely start again...Lets wait - see...lol

Ok, I will go through settings in Chrome and IE9 again to see if maybe something should be either turned on or off.
I turned off all plug-ins in chrome except for flash and java and are now turning them back on 1 at a time.

I'll pop back tomorrow and see if you've stopped by.

:P

Hi Aqua258,

I would like some more info about your Chrome icon in the control panel. Can you tell me exactly what section you have 2 icons in?
By which section, I mean is it in the Uninstall a program section?

Hows the plug in test going, have you found one that is causing issues?

chrome.jpg

No luck so far with the chrome plug-ins(no change).
2 questions if i may about that plug-in page.
plug-ins.jpg
1; see the check box at the top of pic, do all those need to be ticked. Each plug-in has one.
2; i have two java is that OK and are they the right ones?

Crowbar i accidently came across a file/page that had all comp/software plug-ins in it but i cant remember how i got to it.
Would you let me know where to find that please so i can go through those as well.
Not that I have a lot of downloads since the clean install but i'd like to check anyway.

Chrome IE9 still have there moments, sometimes they go like a bat outa [bleep] and other times they have to think about what to do.

Hi there Aqua258,

Step 1
looking at the first screencap, I would say you have 2 different installs of Chrome on your computer, so please uninstall the older one, version 19.0.1084.52, installed on 5-22-2012

Step 2
That check box you mention, on your Chrome plug-ins page will Disable the plug-in in question, so if you were trying to disable the plug-in, then yes, click the box..

Step 3

Crowbar i accidently came across a file/page that had all comp/software plug-ins in it but i cant remember how i got to it.
Would you let me know where to find that please so i can go through those as well.

Not quite sure what you mean here, try typing about:plugins into the address bar, or click on the wrench, select Tools then Extensions.
Are either of those what you were looking for?

Step 4
I think you are using an old version of Java. Well, not really old, just one version behind. They update it all the time, current version is Version 7 Update 5
so first, please uninstall any version you have now. There may be mulitple copies of Java, so you can remove all of them.

Then go to Java.com, and click on the Do I Have Java? link.

There you will find instructions on downloading the newest version. If you can't get it from there please let me know.
