I have an Iomega Super DVD Writer 16x (external)and have been using DVD-Cloner to back up my DVD collection for the past
few months with no problems. After installing the Windows XP SP2 update, my
system freezes when I try to use the program to burn a disk. I can
initialize the program and then set the program how-to-burn just fine.
But when I try to select the “ok” to burn, it runs until it reached 5%
of reading and then freeze my system.
I have made sure no other program is being run during this time by
going into Control-Alt-Delete and stopping all applications and start-ups
that may interfere. By doing this I have also seen that the CPU memory usage
varies b/n 1% and possibly 10% while the program is initialized but not
burning. As soon as it begins to burn, it jumps to 100% and freezes. I
had given up and reformatted my hard drive. Then proceeded to download the
software of the company’s web site again however I still get the same
results.
I have also tried reading the disk to the hard drive but the system
will still freeze up as soon as it hits 5% of reading. I suspected it has
something to do with Win XP SP2 since I never had any of these problems
until it was updated into my system, which made me uninstall Win XP SP2
but do to the rest of the programs not running right afterwards I
reinstalled it quickly. If Win XP SP2 is the cause, how do I correct it and if not
what other steps can I take to fix this problem?
