Righto I have a Problem in the form of smitfraud.
I'm running windows xp pro and the nasty trojan has gone right through zone alarm and buggered up my system.
At the moment I have no desktop icons showing with just a blue screen (no text) nor do i have a taskbar or any of the paraphamalia that gopes with this. Just a blank blue screen.
The only way I can acess anything is by manually starting it from the task manager.
Following all the instructions for removal I'm having no luck at all. However I do have a Hijackthis log which is as follows

Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1

Welcome tortoiselicker to Geeks to Go!

Please read these instructions carefully. You may want to print them. Copy the text to a Notepad file and save it to your desktop! We will need the file later.
Be sure to follow ALL instructions!
It may take a few runs to clean up.

***

Disable Spyware Doctor for the duration of this fix.

***

HijackThis is being run from a temporary folder; this means that any backups it creates as a result of fixes made with it will be lost. Please create a new folder for it and place the program into that new folder.

***

Open HijackThis.
Go to ‘config’
Go to ‘misc tools’
Press the button ‘open uninstall manager’
In the list find:
ISTbar / ISTservice
Press ‘delete this entry’.
Close HijackThis.

***

Close as many programs and windows as possible.

Copy the part below into notepad and save it as unhko.reg

REGEDIT4

Doubleclick the file and confirm you want to merge it with the registry.

***

Please download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Extract the program to your desktop and double-click on its folder, then double-click on Killbox.exe to start the program.

In the killbox program, select the Delete on Reboot option.

Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\SMSSU.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Tmntsrv32.EXE
C:\Windows\explorer32dbg.exe
C:\Windows\iexplore_dbg.exe
C:\WINDOWS\deaiiwwu.exe
C:\PROGRAM FILES\Aveo\Attune\bin\attune_ce.exe
C:\Program Files\ISTsvc\istsvc.exe

Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".
Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.
Let the system reboot.

***

Please RIGHT-CLICK: HERE and go to Save As (in Internet Explorer it's "Save Target As") in order to download Grinler's reg file. Save it to your desktop.

Locate "smitfraud.reg" on your desktop and double-click it. When asked if you want to merge with the registry, click YES. Wait for the "merged successfully" prompt then follow the rest of the instructions below.
