Transfering video from camera to computer

I have a samsung mini dv camcorder, model scd77. I want to transfer my videos from the camera to my computer. Have an older Dell desktop, and new hp 2000-369wm Notebook PC. Bought a "honestech vhs to dvd 5.0 deluxe" program that is basically a hardware device with installable software. It will not work. Can anyone tell me how to make this transfer?
