First time posting here...thanks in advance for any/all help! Not overly tech savvy so bear with me...here goes:

Went through all the recommended steps:

1) Cleanup - completed
2) Ad-aware SE - completed
3) CWShredder - completed....coolwebsearch not found
4) Spybot S&D - got message indicating unable to complete...application failed to start because msjava.dll not found. Then got message indicated 6 problems fixed
5) Ewido - completed
6) Trend Housecall - not able to download this or Panda Activescan
7) AVG - n/a since I have Panda Antivirus software already (NOTE: Panda does not start automatically...have to manually enable every time....shouldn't it start up automatically??)
8) TDS3 - completed/nothing found
9) Windows Update - unable to determine if I already have the SP1a...could not access update...advised me to start Background INtelligent Transfer Service which I (think) I did but still would not allow me to access the update.

After I did all of the above, I did notice an improvement in the speed of my computer and ability to access some webpages that were previously unaccessible or did not load graphics but I don't think I'm 100% yet. Some graphics still don't load and can't access websites such as McAfee.

Some time ago, I made the mistake of opening a file in an email that was addressed TO me FROM me....it was a zip file named Price Adjustment and there was just one word when the file opened...."sorry". After that I began to receive hundreds of returned emails that I had not sent. I am still getting a few of these all trying to email one particular address that gets bounced back vs. multiple ones before.

That's the background....here's my hijack this log....please let me know what I need to do next.....Thanks so much for your help!

Looks like you got rid of most of it. :tazz:

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)

O16 - DPF: {FA13A9FA-CA9B-11D2-9780-00104B242EA3} (WildTangent Control) - http://install.wildt...ler/install.cab

Then find this file:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
rightclick that file and choose "rename"
Rename it to hosts.bak
All Internet Explorer windows still have to be closed when you do this.
It may take a reboot for the changes to have effect.
Now try accessing the sites you couldn't go to before.

Metallica,

Thanks for the speedy response!!! Ok, I did what you said and I think it worked!
(Should I post a new hijack this log???)

One thing I did notice....my Panda software is still not automatically starting up when I start my computer and I would think it should, right? Any suggestions? Should I uninstall then reinstall??

Since I'm one of those people who like to know the "why" of things, did all this likely occur because of my opening that email attachment addressed to me from me? I certainly won't be doing that again....I thought I knew better!

Thanks tons!!!!

I'd have to see the content of the hosts file to be able to guess where it came from.

Sounds to me like you had a virus that blocked your access to security sites and crippled Panda.

So re-installing Panda may be a wise decision, unless you have installed a new Antivirus in the meantime. Running two of them resident is NOT a good idea.

Ok, thanks.

One last thing (hopefully).....what to do about Windows Update? I was not able to do the SP1 update (see previous message). My husband thinks I already had this update....and it does show "SP1" on the Platform line at the beginning of the Hijack This log...your thoughts?

If I do already have the SP1, should I now try and download the SP2 update?

SP1 is installed from the looks of your log.

Installing SP2 is a good idea now that your computer is clean. :tazz:
