I've had the System Check Virus before...and I removed it. Didn't have any issues. Computer ran just fine after that. However, I just got the Security Shield Virus about a week ago and it was a little different. I sucessfully removed that, but ever since then, my computer runs very sluggishly. My PC has always been snappy for my needs. Windows open up quickly, things load fast, etc. Ever since I contracted that stupid iSTD, though, my PC has been slow to open everything, even My Computer. It's very noticeable.

Additionally, dvm.exe processes will sometimes exceed 700,000K in commit size! I don't think that has anything to do with the virus, though. Other programs seem to have memory leaks as well, maxing out my available memory (4GB) and putting a toll on the processor.

Can anyone recommend a way to remedy some of these problems? I've tried running registry cleaners, rootkit scanners, etc, etc, and nothing seems to be improving the PC's performance since last week.

Hi there I would not recommend using registry cleaners as they can cause more problems that they cure

Download OTL to your Desktop
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.

  • Select All Users
  • Under the Custom Scan box paste this in
    netsvcs
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
    /md5start
    services.*
    explorer.exe
    winlogon.exe
    Userinit.exe
    svchost.exe
    /md5stop
    CREATERESTOREPOINT
  • Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Post both logs

THEN

Download aswMBR.exe ( 4.8mb ) to your desktop.
Double click the aswMBR.exe to run it Click the "Scan" button to start scan

On completion of the scan click save log, save it to your desktop and post in your next reply
