Battlefield 2: Special Forces cannot install to an external hard drive

Hi guys,
I'm having a bit of trouble here,
I recently bought the Special Forces expansion pack for Battlefield 2 and upon installing, i get the message: "BF2 Special Forces requires that Battlefield 2 be installed. Please install Battlefield 2 before continuing". I have BF2 on an external hard drive because of space and all that, but surely there is some way to change its install folder? Please help.
