Cpu maxes when streaming, vlc, youtube, etc. Causing extreme video lagging

DELL Inspiron 5100
Pentium 4 CPU 2.40GHz
512MB RAM
Windows XP

Any help would be much appreciated :)

laptops by design use low power components (slower) to get a longer battery life
your laptop only has 512 MBs of RAM and the oboard video card/chip is using 64 MBs of that
and its only DDR PC2700 (slow)...you can add 1 more stick of 512 MB...which will help some but its not going to a cure for all your lag issues...
