I just recently bought a new 64gb SSD and installed it into my computer as the case manufacturer said in the instructions. I did everything as planned, then plugged my computer back in, to turn it on and get a black screen. No bios or anything. I tried plugging it into my alternate display to see if that was the issue, and it was not the issue. I later tried booting the computer without the SSD plugged in which yeilded the same result as before. I hope to get help soon so i can get my rig running and install my OS onto it.

Welcome to Geeks to Go

I think the first question is, what happens if you take out the SSD and replace the old hard drive.

The second point may be to check that you have not dislodged the graphics card, or indeed any other connections.

Next I would try, if the graphics have the DVI HDMI and or VGA connecting VGA

Was the SSD drive a boxed drive with securing screws or barebones.

If all this fails, check your motherboard manual and reset BIOS

It may help if you post the make and full model if branded of the computer, or the motherboard details

I've tried using different connectors, and that hasn't worked. I also did not remove the old drive, and and resetting the bios is not an option..I have ruled that my video card is not functioning correctly, and will acquire an extra to test it (my friend is an it guy and will lend me one).

OK will wait to here from you

The motherboard does not have integrated graphics I presume.

Well, I know it's not the video card, and I got the same results with a EVGA 610 so this means it has to be the motherboard. The computer is 4 years old so it's time for a upgrade :D

So I was thinking of buying:
-ASUS P8B75-M/CS5 LGA 1155 Motherboard
-Intel Core i3 1155 3.1Ghz
-G. SKILL Ripjaw x series 16gb (2x8gb) 240 pin DDR3 SDRAM
-EVGA GeForce 640 2gb

If anyone has suggestions in the price range of this please give them, and but I am locked into an 1155 because I actually already have it.

EDIT: Spelling and grammar corrections

Is the black screen simply that or is it a black screen with a white cursor

Without the SSD connected is there any indication of post - beeps - HDD activity

Do any motherboard LEDS illuminate

Are fans spinning

In the situation you are, and even before, with the intention to install on the SSD - I cannot readily see why resetting BIOS to defaults is a problem

On many modern boards there are in fact two BIOS rententions, the one you may store to return if the BIOS becomes a problem and the default BIOS

Well, yesterday i received my precious parts from purolator. They were all in pristine condition, and I installed them just now. I booted my computer, and installed Windows 8 like a charm. So, long story short, PROBLEM SOLVED! :D And, yes, it was my mainboard.

P.S. @macboatmaster, it was without a cursor, for future reference. Also, thank you for your time.

Hope all goes well

It would be interesting to hear your opinion of Windows 8 in due course.

Windows 8 is nice, but doesn't support my drivers. It doesn't use that much ram, and runs much faster ad lighter. All in all, it's fine-tuned windows 7. Because of the lack of driver support, I am currently trying to find out how to dual-boot to my existing windows 7 install on my other drive without going into the bios. It would be helpful if anyone had insight on how to do that with this. It used to be so easy. :P

Do you not have the option at post for an F key boot menu, that is a one time boot selection, as against boot priority in BIOS which of course is all boots

Got the same problem that I am working on now. I think it is because I have the old HDD plugged in at the same time. Therefore they both have primary partitions and it confuses the system. If you have the old HDD still in make sure you format it.
