Hey folks.... so I use Chrome as my default browser, and I use extensions to manage my mail and stop ads and whatnot. Well this one extension that I use, Disconnect, suddenly stopped working on all google and facbeook pages (the extension is designed to prevent trackers from following my online activity). So I tried uninstalling Chrome and re-installing it-same problem.

So then I got the brilliantly bad idea.... let me delete as many google files on my computer as possible, maybe that will force a total reset of Chrome on my computer, and then I'll just re-install Chrome and it should work.

And now when I try to install Chrome, I get this message-"System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The system cannot find the file specificed at System.Diagnostics.Process.StartWithShellExecuteEx(ProcessStartInfostartInfo) at System.Diagnostics.Process.Start() at System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(ProcessStartInfo startInfo) at ClickOnceBootstrap.ClickOnceEntry.Main()" I've also attached a picture of it.Chrome Installer Error Window 2012.jpg

Yeah.... I'm really not the brightest at times. Please help me save my silly self? I had to switch over from Firefox to Chrome originally because Firefox stopped letting me download things, and now I'm stuck with Internet Explorer.....

The easiest and most simple approach, not knowing exactly what you have deleted is to use system restore and restore to a point before you had the problem
HOWEVER please be aware that you will lose all that was installed since and of course that includes any images, docs etc or any changes made to such

Thanks! I tried that, and it said it couldn't be completed, couldn't find the file or something :( Is there a program that will restore deleted files for me besides System Restore?

List all you have tried please
It saves us both time
Do you mean please that there were system restore points, but it reported that the problem would not be fixed or did it report that no restore points were available

We are talking about start programs accessories, system tools, system restore - are we - rather than any recovery procedure

I have tried installing Chrome and I have tried restoring my computer to an earlier point, that's all I've been able to figure out. Somehow my backup Western Digital drive got the restore points on it, so I had to connect it to my computer before it even recognized that there were restore points, but even so when it had finished restoring and restarting my computer, I got an error message saying that it could not be completed because it was missing a file. I tried to download a program to recover the files I deleted, but Internet Explorer won't let me download it for some reason, it says it's downloading and then it's not on my computer, so that doesn't really help.

1. run a chkdsk /r on C drive
that is windows button in search type
cmd
when it appears above right click and click run as admin
at the prompt
type
chkdsk C: /r
agree the message to run on restart and do so

then after that has completed go back to cmd and type
sfc /scannow
when that reports errors fixed or no violations found
either run it again if it says there are some errors that cannot be fixed - up to three trimes
then see what the report is
type exit and key enter to leave cmd prompt

2.After that is complete send me the chkdsk results please
that is control panel
admin tools
event viewer
windows logs on left pane
application
when that log loads on main window click the source colum heading once
now scroll to wininit
open the most recent wininit check that it is the chkdsk results
click copy on right hand pane
and paste on reply

Okay I did it! But when I went to find winnit under Application in the Event Finder it wasn't there! Should I try running the checkdisk again? Do I need to exit the CMD before I restart my computer? I can't believe I'm even asking that....

Please do not apologise

The good thing is that NO file corruption is revealed and the drive appears in good order - no bad sectors

The less than good news at this time is that we have not really made porgress and must explore another avenue

Would you confirm please that you have also run the system file check
that is on the drive with Windows installed - C Drive - my post 9 refers please
Did it report no violations

Referring back to your post 5 I have just realised that you said the restore points were on your WD external drive.
That is most unusual - are you saying that you have no system restore points on C Drive - eg that it is turned off on that drive
OR are you talking about other than windows restore points.
http://windows.micro.../system-restore

as when you click show other restore points that includes backups.

and to ascertain if it is turned on
Control Panel
System
Advanced system settings left pane
System Protection tab

so in short if you have not tried a windows restore point created by the system that is what you need

Remember please my caution about you will lose all since the restore point.

Yeah, my #12 post show my C:/ checkdisk results, it says the same thing as my D:/, no errors or violations found. With the restore point, I went to find a restore point using Windows, it showed 2 restore points but when I tried to use them Windows reported it could not find the file, and since I back-up my computer using my Western Digital, I thought maybe it was accidentally on there-somehow it seems that Windows knew there were restore points but only part of it was on my WD and none on my computer, so System Restore didn't work anyway :( I have no idea how my WD got only part of my Restore Point, it was like it found part of it but then it still didn't work......
