My computer kept crashing (to a blue screen, then it restarted) it did it sometimes while I was busy on the internet (I have recorded quite a few of the error reports that show up after each crash by screenshots), It seems to have started shortly after I upgraded my Norton 360 to v.6 especially if I try running the Diagnostic Report. Then I started having even more issues, my PC didn't want to stay connected to the internet it gave me multiple reasons why it couldn't be completed i.e. connecting to the wireless network, renewing IP address, and registering with DNS. Then it was doing at times where my IE page would stop working and any windows I had open and my task bar would change to different settings in its looks then a few minutes it would go back to my settings (which I also have a few screenshots of. At that point I couldn't really use anything; the IE pages wouldn't connect right to the internet, you could only open the start menu once, the taskbar freezes as soon as it loads so you couldn't use it or anything on it. I used the system restore back to a date I believe was before the mass amount of problems it worked okay for maybe a week before going right back to the issues, and I tried to use the restore again but it told me it couldn't make any changes. I have not been able to use the windows update because it will not allow any of the downloads. I do not think it is viruses\malware as I have ran Norton scans and Malwarebytes antimalware with seemingly clean results, but that doesn't mean there couldn't be something hidden. As of right at this moment I'm at this point with my PC: I started my PC a few days ago and it worked perfectly fine it didn't seem to be having the above listed problems so I thought maybe it fixed itself(though I know I shouldn't have) but when it went into sleep mode and I woke it from it my taskbar & programs on my desktop completely froze again and I was not able to open/click anything. So as of right now all I can do is turn my laptop on & move the mouse arrow around the screen and I can open some programs sometimes.

-I am using Microsoft XP Pro. Ver. 2002 SP 3

-While the problems did become more apparent after the Norton upgrade, I am not sure that it was the direct cause of all the issues

-I had removed Norton once but it didn't seem to make a difference, so I'm not sure if I need to try to reload a new one & strip the old one off again (maybe a bad download?).

Does anyone have any insight as to what may be behind this endless meltdown? Can anyone help me fix it? :smashcomp:

It looks like the Bonjour Service is having some problems. So I would like to see you autoruns now.

Download Autoruns from the link in my signature below:

1: Extract the Autoruns Zip file contents to a folder.
2: Double-click the "Autoruns.exe".
3: Click on the "Everything" tab
4: Click the Options at the top of the Window. In the new little window click the box that states Hide Microsoft Services
5: Go to File then to Export As or Save in some versions.
6: Save the file as AutoRuns.txt file instead of the default .arn to a known location like your Desktop.
7: Attach to your next reply.
8: DO NOT do anything till we have had a chance to study the log and reply with suggestions as to what to remove.

OK got a few steps to go through so be patient with all this.

Open Autoruns, click on "Logon" tab, and UN-check:

+ "Adobe ARM"
+ "Adobe Reader Speed Launcher"
+ "QuickTime Task"

+ "SunJavaUpdateSched"

When done restart computer and then:

Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop
  • Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
  • Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
  • Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

Download Auslogics Defrag from the link in my signature below. Auslogics Defrag in my opinion is better because:

It does a more comprehensive job at Defragging
It will actually show you what it is doing
At the end of working it will show you how much speed you picked up
You can view a online log of the files that Auslogics defragged
Please do not run any other Auslogics programs other then this one as they may cause unwanted results.

When done with all of the above then please do the following.

Lets see what you have in your startup services area

Please click on
Start and then to Run
Type in msconfig and press Enter
Now click on Services
Click on the Hide All Microsoft Services

Next click on your Print Screen on your keyboard. It is normally the key above your number pad between the F12 key and the Scroll Lock key
Now go to Start
All Programs
Accessories
Paint

In the empty white area click and hold the CTRL key and then click the V
Go to the File option at the top and click on Save As
Save as file type JPEG and save it to your desktop
In your next reply attach the screenshot.

Sorry it has taken so long to reply. My computer keeps crashing (about 17 times) and not functioning properly causing the need to restart/shutdown (about 23 times). This is the 4th time I've been able to get it to work long enough to log on (though each one stopped working before I could reply) in a day and a half. I had downloaded the Auslogic Defrag but every time I tried to run it it would blue screen crash and restart just like trying to run the Norton D. Report. So I'm not quite sure what to do now.

Please check if you are having the same issues in Safe Mode.
Reboot your PC, and after the first beep keep tapping F8
You will get a text based menu where you will be able to select Safe Mode.

Sorry again, about nine more blue screen crashes prevented me from a quicker reply.

Yes it did. It stopped on:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\windows\system32\DRIVERS\kmxstart.sys

OK this looks to be a driver issue but since you can't get into safe mode we will have t do this a different way. You will have to try a system restore back to a time before the issue started.

Since you can get into normal mode with some work we can try the following first.

Lets see what you have in your startup

Please click on
Start and then to Run
Type in msconfig and press Enter
Now click on Startups
Then uncheck everything and restart.
IMPORTANT! In case of laptop, make sure, you do NOT disable any keyboard, or touchpad entries.
If system boots correctly and is running smoothly and faster then we have a startup problem
Try going back into msconfig and check one item and reboot
Keep doing that till you have found the problem or all are finally checked.
Post back with the results

After I unchecked them all and restarted my PC not much changed, as I went along and started to recheck them and restart my PC some of them worked fine and some didn't. And during this process my PC did crash twice, but when I went back to redo it all over again it didn't crash at all.
