I need help-I've run out of ideas.

Using Converterlite software, I converted WMA audiobook files, obtained via Overdrive Media, to MP3 files.
Then loaded the Smart Audiobook Player app on the Droid phone.
Copied the MP3 files from my PC into an Audiobook file on the SD card.
Opening Smart Audiobook Player, and pointing to the Audiobook file on teh SD card, the app loaded all MP3 audiobooks into the app library (note, all of this was pushing my knowledge limits)

Encouraged, I began listening to a book on the Droid - it is totally unintelligible, regardless of the play speed. Just sounds like squeeks and squawks.

Where did I go wrong? What can I do to fix it?
