Hey Folks
I hope this falls under the appropriate category for a question.
I'm running Desktop Dell Windows XP service pack3

===========
I'm fairly lame with computers so apologies in advance for the newbie description of my problem.

Basically- for quite some time whenever I would save a page into a folder, that page would be less than functional once I clicked it open. Mostly, that shows itself when I would try to start a video or audio from that page-Say a Youtube page. But also regular video/audio files wouldn't play as well.

Recently, I've reformatted by computer. The same problem exists but now the problem exists when I save a file or a page straight to my desktop as well. They don't open or often look bizarre when they do and the address bar always reads " :///C:/Documents and Settings/Steve Franklin/Desktop" (Steve Franklin is my name by the way) before it shows the web site/file name.

Am I missing an essential file or is something not set correctly?

Hopes this makes a shred of sense.

Cheers,

Steve F.

One question you are saving links to your desktop why not just bookmark the site?

I like to have frequently used websites/pages as icons on my desktop. Also, I like to have my saved pages of different types in different folders. It used to be that anything put into a folder didn't open correctly but now that applies to shortcuts on my desktop as well.

Yes I know that you are on xp.Read the instructions This is a canned speech that I use on forums so I do not need to type it out each time these instructions apply to you as well.They just cover a machine that runs vista or win 7 as well.
The only thing that needs to be done with your machine is to double click the program. :thumbsup:

Wow. This may be fantastic Rockmilk. The shortcuts can now be opened, read & played from desktop or if placed in the folder! Enormous. Curiously enough, they still say "documents&settingsSteveFranklin" etc before listing the file name but it works great.
Is there anything I need to do/reset now that things have been changed a bit?
