But I keep getting the AVG resident shield alerts saying 'Multiple Threat Detection' -- Found tracking cookie.advertising, tracking cookie.atdmt etc.. I've uninstalled AVG before I posted my question here but looks like it wasn't completely uninstalled. I found online that there is another way of uninstalling. Should I completely uninstall AVG and reinstall latest AVG? Please advice.
Thanks.

If I go to 'All Programs -> AVG2011 -> Uninstall AVG' it took me to the next step. Should I try this option?

Yes please. Try standard uninstall process. If you uninstall it then download new version of AVG and install it.

There is no need to run it right now because we did VRT scan. You can do AVG scan after we fix your PC.
Any problems with your system now?

but I am not sure whether or not my computer is completely disinfected
You can do AVG scan and make sure everything is fine
Your logs and system are clean now. I'm glad we fix up your computer.
Step 1
Please close all running programs and Run OTL
- Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following
:OTL
:Commands
[purity]
[emptytemp]
[resethosts]
[clearallrestorepoints]
[Reboot] - Then click the Run Fix button at the top
- Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
Step 2
We need to clean up your PC from programs we used.
Please start OTL one more time and click CleanUp button. OTL will restart your system at the end.
In case that any of the software we used in this fix still remains on your system please delete it manually (Right click on it and select Delete).
General recommendations
Here are some recommendations you should follow to minimize infection risk in the future:
1. Something to read
To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read our little guide How did I get infected in the first place ?
2. Make Backups of Important Files
Please read this article Home Computer Data Backup.
3. Regularly update your software
To eliminate design flaws and security vulnerabilities, all software needs to be updated to the latest version or the vendor’s patch installed.
You should download Update Checker from here. The program will automaticly check for newer version of software installed on your system.

I did run AVG scan and it came up with no infections. I've also completed other steps. Thank you so much for your time. I really appreciate all your help.
One last question, is it 'SYSWOW64' virus that affected my system? were there more than one? Just curious.
Thanks.

You were infected with ZeroAccess trojan (on of its variant). That was main infection. We also removed all other unwanted programs that usually comes with this infection with VRT tool so you wont reinfect your self.
Glad I could help. Goodbye and stay safe
