My PC has been having issues lately with it's wireless internet connection. I thought it might have been the wireless usb unit I was using so I changed that and the problem has lessened but not gone away. (The one I'm using now has a much better signal strength so that might be the increase.) Strange slowness issues with the connection. Videos and such aren't slowed down appreciably, but a simple forum will often hang the connection is so slow. Ran AVG and it identified a rootkit. Cleaned said infection and immediately re-ran AVG. Same rootkit was back. It changes the "....".sys name every time it's cleaned by AVG (currently it's spre.sys). This is what AVG shows:

FILE INFECTION RESULT

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\spre.sys atapi.sys, hooked import HAL.dll READ_PORT_UCHAR -> spre.sys +0x2024 Object is hidden
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\spre.sys atapi.sys, hooked import HAL.dll READ_PORT_BUFFER_USHORT -> spre.sys +0x213E Object is hidden
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\spre.sys atapi.sys, hooked import HAL.dll READ_PORT_USHORT -> spre.sys +0x20C0 Object is hidden
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\spre.sys atapi.sys, hooked import HAL.dll WRITE_PORT_BUFFER_USHORT -> spre.sys +0x2800 Object is hidden
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\spre.sys atapi.sys, hooked import HAL.dll WRITE_PORT_UCHAR -> spre.sys +0x26D6 Object is hidden
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\spre.sys i8042prt.sys, hooked import HAL.dll READ_PORT_UCHAR -> spre.sys +0x11B90 Object is hidden

Like I said, the file name under drivers changes when I try to clean it, other than that, it's the same (the numbers after the read/write port might change, I don't know)

DAEMON Tools Lite
DRV - [2012/09/08 01:41:24 | 000,691,696 | ---- | M] () [Kernel | Boot | Running] -- C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\sptd.sys -- (sptd)

BTW, like the avatar, but aren't you dragon the bottom of the barrel there?

Ouch :rofl:

You are running fairly clean, is it a persistent connection problem or intermittent ?

Clear Cache/Temp Files
Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop
  • Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
  • Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
  • Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

THEN

  • Download RogueKiller and save it on your desktop.

    NOTE: If using IE8 or better Smartscreen Filter will need to be disabled
  • Quit all programs
  • Start RogueKiller.exe.
  • Wait until Prescan has finished ...
  • Click on Scan
    Posted Image
  • Wait for the end of the scan.
  • The report has been created on the desktop
