Hi Sue_91 and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Excal and I will be helping you.

I can see that you have some malware issues. This maybe a few step process in removing it. I encourage you to stick with it and follow my directions as closely as possible so as to avoid complicating the problem further.

Can you tell me what your Internet Service Provider is?

203.98.129.1 /203.98.129.9 <-----Is this it? (nwtgigalink.com?)

Download LQfix Here
save it to your desktop, please do not use yet

Download and install CleanUp! Here
We will use this program later.

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

1. Click this link to be sure you can view hidden files.

2. Close all browsers, windows and unneeded programs.

3. Open HiJack and do a scan.

4. Put a Check next to the following items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [checkrun] C:\windows\system32\eliteaee32.exe
O16 - DPF: {10003000-1000-0000-1000-000000000000} - ms-its:mhtml:file://C:\foo.mht!http://dl.ad-ware.cc...m::/on-line.exe

5. click the Fix Checked box

6. double click on LQFix program u downloaded.
A doswindow will open and close again, this is normal.

7. Run the program CleanUp!

8. Reboot your computer

9. Run this online virus scan: ActiveScan - Save the results from the scan!

10. Please post an Active scan log and a fresh HiJackThis log to verify all is good. Ensure you rehide your “hidden files and folders” back to the way they were.

Hi Sue_91

Can you tell me who your Internet Service Provider is?

203.98.129.1 /203.98.129.9 <-----Is this it? (nwtgigalink.com?)

Just a few random bad files to clean up.
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the configure button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Click on "Delete File on Reboot"
  • Navigate to this file - C:\WINDOWS\system32\in10b6s.dll
  • Double click on that file.
  • HJT asks you if you want to reboot, now. Click "no".

Do that for the following files also, until you get to the last one, then click "yes" when HJT asks you to reboot.

C:\windows\system32\ELITEA~3.EXE <-----This file will start with ELITEA
C:\WINDOWS\system32\in10b6s.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\temperror32.dat
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Updater
C:\WINDOWS\browserxtras\pn\remove.exe

Post back when you finish and tell me how your computer is running ;)

Thanks,

:tazz:

Sue_91,

Glad to see that things are going better.

I see you have P2P software installed on your machine (limewire). We are not here to pass judgment on file-sharing as a concept. However, we will warn you that engaging in this activity and having this kind of software installed on your machine will always make you more susceptible to re-infections.
Here is a list of P2P's considered infected and "clean". P2P List

Great job, it appears your computer is clean :tazz:

Now that your system is Malware Free, it is important to reset your system Restore. Click Here to learn how to.
Might I suggest the following Free Spyware programs for added security, you can download them at the following links. These programs work great for detection:

Ad-aware SE

Spybot S&D

If you are unhappy with your current antivirus and want to replace it or if you dont already have one, I suggest this Free program:
*Note - do not use more than one anti-virus program as it will more than likely cause conflict.

AVG

The following free programs are great for prevention:

SpywareBlaster 3.4

Spywareguard

IE/Spyad

A Firewall is a must! Here are 2 good free versions:

Sygate

ZoneLabs

There are other options other than Internet Explorer for a browser, which some say have better security. Two of them are:

Firefox

Opera

This site is a great source for tightening up security on Internet Explorer settings.

Make sure that you keep your Operating System and IE updated with the latest Critical Security Updates from Microsoft...they usually come out once a month, on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
For ease use the following program:

Cleanup
Run "Cleanup" and when it has finished, Reboot

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Excal,

U really are a genius... I've only had one ad in the past 3 days!

I already have Ad-Aware SE as well as Norton Antivirus 2005. Is that enough to protect my computer or do I need a separate firewall on top of that?

Because, when I installed Norton, it made me turn off WIndows Firewall, saying that it interferes with Norton's activities.

I've installed SpywareBlaster but I can't change my browser because quite a few of the sites I visit frequently require Internet Explorer in order to work.

Thanx a HUGE amount for your help...
