Walt,

Could you please try to find where it saved at? If not, the information I'm looking for should be on the Details tab and should be the Device Description, for instance, mine is "Atheros AR8152/8158 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20)" There are several different possibilities listed on the Dell Site for your computer & we need to get the right one to properly update the driver.

Walt,

Let's try this for the Ethernet driver. Go back to the device manager and when you right click choose Uninstall. Then reboot and Windows should provide the driver.

Walt,

Sometimes Windows will do it automatically, sometimes it won't so it was worth a shot. The Ethernet Controller is actually a chip that controls the information exchanged between computers on the internet. I have another idea to run by my instructor and I'll get back to you as soon as I can with more instructions.

Since you have a Dell computer we can try this. Go here and it will ask for your Service Tag or Express Code. Dell says that "your Service Tag is a unique five- or seven-digit alphanumeric (letter and number) code, which is found on a white bar-coded label affixed to your Dell computer or peripheral. An Express Service Code is a numeric conversion of a Service Tag." If you can't find it there is also an option you can allow it to auto-detect it for you. It should then display a list of drivers that are specifically for your computer. Under Network choose the post current driver for your computer to download and follow the installation instructions.

Hi Jasmyne
That's where I got the drivers! I will do it again! I noticed that it knocked out the sound changing uption. I was able to lower or increase the sound with the sound controller on the keyboard now I have to go and open the volume box to change the sound. It also stopped giving me emails stating you left a answer. I just happened to check to see if you found anything new and seen you asked that I reinstall drivers. Thanks Walt

Hi Jasmyne
I went to Dell site and all it would show is the Bios Driver, would not pull any other drivers. They also have a Diognostic program Dell PC Diagnostics, I tried running the program and it will not finish running!!!! It starts and stops!! It states that the program would run about 15 to 20 minutes it stops after only 40 seconds!! Twice! I tried again and this time it's working. See what happens. I also atteched the program! Thanks Walt

Hi Walt,

It also stopped giving me emails stating you left a answer.

You might check your spam box. Every blue moon or so my email gets spam happy and starts sending my topics from Geeks to Go to the spam box. I know this time of year is busy for a lot of people so I knew you get back to me when you had time. :)

I also atteched the program!

There wasn't anything attached to your last post. Could you try again?

Is your computer still acting the same, or has it gotten any better?

Thanks,

Jasmyne

Hi Jasmyne
It still does not spell check, I went to the Dell site and tried to down load drivers and all it would give me is the Bios driver. I loaded driver for Web cam and it keeps asking for me to load the driver. What ever was on the computer did some damage. Also I'm not able to increase or dicrease the sound by the keyboard as I used to. It no longer works. I'm real frustrated. Have a Nice Holiday! Thanks Walt

Hi Jasmyne
Hey it's starting to get worse! I typing and when I hit the space bar it shoots me down to bottom of the page. And as you can see it's not spell checking I'm a terrible speller. I know that you don't believe me!! But there is something on this computer!! Also I forgot to tell you before I found out that there was something on this computer. On start up before Windows started I would get some writing on the screen in Machine Language!! There were about five letters . looked like a - n “II” diamond actual diamond shape!! I have seen Machine Language before!! that is all that I can remember. What ever I have I did not destroy with the format!! Some of it still on the computer!! I know my computer and it’s not acting right!!! And like I said I’m running the driver programs but it’s almost like they are not loading correctly?!? It’s almost like it checks what programs I can run on this computer!! And I’m not Crazy I promise you!! Thanks Walt

Walt,

I do not think you are crazy, I use my computer hours a day, almost every day, and I can tell when it's even the slightest bit off. I've been on your side of this forum more than once. One time it wasn't even a malware problem. That is in big part the reason why I'm trying to learn to help others. I'm working with my instructor to try to determine what we can from the tools we have available to us. I will post to him tonight (I've been gone all day) and will see what new ideas we can come up with and post back to you sometime tomorrow.

Walt,

I have discussed this with my instructor and we both feel that this is a hardware related issue, not malware. Many times hardware problems can act almost the same way malware does, but every scan has shown no signs of malware, along with the multiple re-installs leaving us with the only conclusion that this issue is related to a hardware problem. At this point your laptop would best be looked at by a local repair shop.
