lol, not quite. I just want to see which updates are failing, and with which error codes. Just take a screenshot of them :)

Well...
I am really confused, because when I went and looked at the history a second time, THERE WERE NO UPDATES!!!
What on earth is going on...

This is a symptom of quite a common Windows Update 'fix'. Did you delete your SoftwareDistribution folder, per chance?

Nope.
I've never applied any 'fixes' except the ones you have told me in this thread.

Hi Programmer101,

I'm so sorry for the delay - I was on holiday, then in all of the rush around Christmas I completely forgot to reply here.

Are you still having issues with this?

Yes.
It's getting much worse.
Windows explorer crashes randomly if i'm connected to the internet.
Some games I play and tools I use now crash with this exception in the crash dump:

The thread tried to read or write from a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access.

SO many problems just keep mounting.

That doesn't sound too good. Let's see what the usual tools think of your situation:

SFC Scan

  • Click on the Start Posted Image button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  • When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  • This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Download and install the SURT: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821

Then upload the log please: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

Could you also zip up any .dmp files in this folder and attach that to your next post please?

C:\Windows\Minidump

Back baby!

Sorry for the LOOOOOOOOOOONG time i took to respond.

Went through the old email loss/change of house/new computer/back to old computer/loss of password/recovery of password saga

Im soooooooo sorry I forgot i had this thread still after all that drama at once

Anyway point in hand im still getting this issue ._.

Its even worse and really strange because I just tried to update today

Essentially I ended up with 71 failed updates out of 96 attempted updates

Its even worse because I got a new graphics card and uh...

I have a feeling my lack of windows updates might be causing the driver installation to fail miserably

It's an nVidia card and im trying to get shadowplay & geforce experience working. I managed to install geforce experience but it doesnt actually run, i get an error when opening etc

Also trying to install the latest drivers for my card fails too. Big error message etc.

If we could sort out the graphics card issues in this thread also that'd be great, but i understand if you want me to make a new thread after we're done with the update errors

cbs.txt is attached (and some dumps & screenshots of my last update attempt on the 24th [and subsequent failure])

(SURT results coming soon)

P.S i understand if you dont want to help me anymore for taking so long to reply

EDIT: SURT has been at this progress for about 60 minutes, i had to cancel it because it was taking too long and i needed to shutdown for the night :/

EDIT2: Im going to try it again in the morning and leave it while i'm out for the day

EDIT #3: Woohoooooo

Leaving it going all day seems to have worked

the SURT finished and i've attached the log

Hey,

P.S i understand if you dont want to help me anymore for taking so long to reply

Not at all! The delay is no problem at all - life gets in the way sometimes and I'm still here and more than happy to help out. Would you mind waiting a couple of days though? I've got an exam on Thursday so I'm drowning in revision right now :(
